As a homeschooling mom of three, I’m already used to having my kids home all day but summer still brings that question: what are we going to do today?
I try really hard to keep screens limited. Do we have days where they get more than I’d like? Yes. But most days, I’m aiming for simple, screen-free summer activities for kids that keep them busy and let them just be kids.
If you’re trying to cut back on screen time too, these screen-free summer activities for kids are easy, realistic, and actually work in real life.

Why We Try to Limit Screen Time
I’m not aiming for perfect—just better.
When my kids have less screen time, I notice:
- They play better together (not always, but more often)
- They use their imagination more
- They spend more time outside
- The day feels a little calmer
And I’ll be honest, there are times when limiting screens means they need me more or want my attention more. They’re not just sitting quietly glued to something. But at the same time, I know too much screen time isn’t the best for them. So even on the harder days, I try to choose more connection, more play, and more real-life moments.
