What Is the You Make My Heart Flutter Craft?
In this activity, children create a butterfly using heart shapes as wings. A popsicle stick forms the body, and kids decorate their butterfly however they like.
The printable includes:
- A page that says “You Make My Heart Flutter”
- A sheet of hearts to cut out and use as butterfly wings
This makes a cute Valentine craft, classroom project, or keepsake to give to someone special.

Why Kids Love This Craft
- Simple and quick to make
- Great cutting and fine motor practice
- Encourages creativity
- Perfect for Valentine exchanges or gifts
- Makes a sweet keepsake
Each butterfly turns out different, which kids love showing off.
Materials Needed
- You Make My Heart Flutter printable (download them here)
- Colored paper (optional)
- Popsicle or craft sticks
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons
Tip: Print the hearts on colored paper or let kids color them first.

How to Make the Craft
Step 1: Cut Out the Hearts
Have children cut out two hearts from the printable. These will become the butterfly wings.
Step 2: Color or Decorate
Kids can color or decorate the hearts however they want — stripes, polka dots, glitter, stickers, or drawings (glitter glue is always the magic touch in our house)!
Step 3: Create the Butterfly Body
Glue a large popsicle stick between the two hearts so they look like butterfly wings.

Step 4: Add Antennae and Eyes
Add an antennae and eyes using markers.
Step 5: Glue Onto Printable
Glue the butterfly onto the printable page so it sits below the phrase “You Make My Heart Flutter.”
Tips for Success
- Pre-cut hearts for younger children.
- Use thicker cardstock for sturdier butterflies.
- Let kids decorate before gluing pieces together.
- Set out lots of decorating supplies for creativity.
