Creating Valentine’s Day basket ideas for kids has become one of our favorite family traditions. For several years now, we’ve been making these baskets as part of what we call our annual “love party.” Since our kids were born, Valentine’s Day has been less about just me and my husband and more about celebrating love we have for our family. We decorate (typically some inexpensive dollar store decor), enjoy Valentine’s Day treats and food, play games like Valentine’s Day bingo, and give each of our kids a love basket that make the day feel extra special.

How to Make a Valentine’s Day Basket for Kids
Making a Valentine’s Day basket for kids doesn’t have to be complicated. A few thoughtful items and a little intention are all it takes to make it meaningful.
Our kids truly look forward to this tradition every year. These Valentine’s Day baskets are also incredibly versatile. You can keep them budget-friendly or add in a few special items—it really just depends on what works best for your family.

Step 1: Choose a Valentine’s Day Basket
Start by choosing a basket or container. This doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive.
Hobby Lobby usually has inexpensive options around Valentine’s Day, including heart-shaped baskets, small bins, and themed containers. A simple heart basket works perfectly and helps set the Valentine’s theme right away.
Other easy basket ideas:
- Small fabric baskets
- Reusable storage bins
- Buckets or tote-style baskets
- Gift bags
Choosing something reusable makes it even better!

You also don’t have to go overboard or expensive– trust me you can find cute little finds at dollar stores, Target dollar spot, or hobby lobby! Amazon never disappoints too for cute finds!
Books
Adding a book is always a favorite. Valentine-themed books are fun, but any book they’ll enjoy works just as well.
Chocolate and Candy
A small amount of Valentine’s candy goes a long way:
- Chocolate hearts
- Conversation hearts
- Lollipops
- Mini candy bags
Cozy Items
- Fun socks
- Valentine’s Day pajamas
- Slippers or cozy accessories
Creative Items
- Art supplies (crayons, markers, dot markets, colored pencils)
- Valentine’s Day themed craft kits
- Stickers
- Stamps
- Coloring books or activity pads
Fun Extras
- Cups or water bottles
- Stuffed animals
- Small toys
- Hair accessories
- Jewerly
- Bath accessories (bath bombs, bubble bath, bath foam)

These ideas make it easy to customize each Valentine’s Day basket for kids while staying within your budget.

Step 3: Keep It Simple and Meaningful
The most important part of these Valentine’s Day basket ideas for kids isn’t what’s inside—it’s the tradition behind them.
Our kids know these baskets are part of our love party. Some years they’re very simple. Other years we add a few extra items. Both feel just as special.
