baby Jesus paper plate craft

If you’re looking for a simple and meaningful baby Jesus paper plate craft, this one has been a favorite in our home (and something I just came up with on the whim). All three of my kids loved making it, and it was so sweet seeing how each manger turned out in their own style. It was the perfect Christian Christmas craft to go along with our Christmas school while learning about the birth of Jesus.

Why Your Kids Will Love This Baby Jesus Paper Plate Craft

Kids love this baby Jesus craft because it’s hands-on and simple. They get to paint, glue, rip paper, and assemble their own manger scene. It gives them a fun way to connect with the Christmas story in a way they can see and touch.

My kids especially loved ripping the brown paper bag to make the straw. That part always made them laugh. They also loved drawing Baby Jesus’ tiny face and placing Him in the manger. Seeing their finished baby Jesus paper plate craftlined up to dry was the cutest.

This project is easy enough for young kids but still fun for older ones.

How to Make This Baby Jesus Paper Plate Craft

(Simple steps kids can follow)

1. Paint the Plate

Flip a white paper plate upside down. Paint the rim brown to make the manger edges. Paint the center black. Let it dry.
This creates the base of your baby Jesus paper plate craft.

2. Add the Hay

Rip a brown paper bag into thin strips. Glue the strips across the black center to create straw.

3. Make Baby Jesus

Cut a small circle from cream or white paper and draw a simple face.
Cut an oval from blue paper to make the swaddle. Glue the head to the body.

4. Glue Baby Jesus in the Manger

Place Baby Jesus onto the straw. Glue Him down so He looks like He’s lying in the manger.

5. Add the Star

Cut a yellow star or use a star sticker. Glue it above the manger to finish your Christian Christmas craft.

Tips to Make This Christian Christmas Craft Even More Special

  • Use markers instead of paint for a faster crafting session.
  • Add glitter to the star for sparkle.
  • Older kids can write Luke 2:11 on the back.
  • Mount the finished baby Jesus craft on colored cardstock for extra stability.
