Let’s be real, life is one big rollercoaster ride. There are highs and lows, ups and downs, twists and turns and sometimes life can knock you straight off your feet. We may not always be able to control the situation, but we don’t have to stay down. When you’re feeling down, overwhelmed, stressed- here are 6 simple things you can do to boost your mood.

1. BREATHE
This sounds so simple, right? But so often we forget to just take a moment to catch our breath. I don’t know about you, but “when it rains, it pours” seems to be quite the motto when I’m going through the thick of it. With one thing after another, strong emotions, it’s important to take the time to just slow down. Stop, pause, and actually breathe. There are two FREE apps that I like to use when I feel like I need to pause and be intentional about my breathing.
Breethe– This app is full of easy mediation and wellness techniques to help with anxiety, stress, and sleep.
Breathwrk – This app gives you powerful and guided breathing exercises that are backed by science and research.
2. GRATITUDE
Blessings are all around us. There’s always something to be thankful for. Even on the hard days, the bad days, the stressed days, the overwhelming days, the tired days, and so on there is good in every single one of them. Sometimes you just have to search for it for a bit more. Sometimes you have to train your brain to find the good instead of focusing on the bad. Gratitude is a powerful tool and a tool we all have! Gratitude brings us joy and encourages us to look for and connect with what’s positive in our life.
My favorite little tool is this gratitude journal that allows me to simply list 3 things I’m grateful for everyday. Can you imagine how powerful this book will be once I have it filled? Talk about positivity and encouragement! I also love my Gratitude Mom Devotional book. The readings are brief, relatable, and reminds us to be grateful despite any of the hardships or chaos we may face in motherhood! Looking for a gratitude book for your spouse? Check out this Daily Gratitude Journal for Men! I stumbled across it awhile ago and gave it to my husband as a gift! It say in a drawer for a while until he finally started to use it and now he enjoys filling it out!
3. DANCE
Music can be a powerful way to boost your mood and when you add dancing to it, total game changer. Turn on a good uplifting song, crank it up, and just go for it. Let loose and dance! This is one of my favorite things to do with my kids. They love it. I love it. It feels good and it feels FREE.
4. LAUGH
Did you know there is science and evidence behind what laughter can do for our brain and body? If you are looking to boost your mood, do not under estimate laughter. Laugher is the best (and free) medicine. Get your giggles on. Don’t know what to laugh about? Reminisce about funny times, look at old silly photos, be GOOFY with your kids, start fake laughing at your self (it usually turns into the real thing!)
5. EXCERCISE
What better way to instantly feel better than to produce happy endorphins? Whether it’s a walk, cardio, lifting weights, or a combo of everything! Getting a good work out in is a total mood booster. I always feel refreshed, reenergized, and ready to conquer the world after a good sweat sesh! I personally enjoy completing at home workout programs from the Sweat App.
6. PRAY
During challenging times, it is comforting to know that there is one thing in our lives that is constant, will always remain the same, and never-changing– God’s love for us. There is nothing greater than the power of prayer. We always have someone to turn to, someone who begs for us to lean in. No one is guaranteed a storm-free life but everyone is guaranteed they don’t have to go through the storms alone.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
If you are someone who is wanting to know God more, follow him deeply, and strengthen your faith I encourage you to check our my favorite Bible- NLT THRIVE Devotional Bible for Women.
