Why is Self-Care Important for Moms?

As a mom of three, I get it. Most days, I’m just trying to keep everyone fed, the house somewhat livable, and maybe squeeze in a shower. The idea of self-care used to feel impossible—like something for moms who had more time or fewer kids. But I’ve learned that taking care of myself doesn’t have to be big or fancy. It can be small. Simple. Real.

These self care tips for busy moms aren’t about adding more to your already full plate. They’re about finding little ways to breathe, reset, and remind yourself that you matter too!

30 day self care challenge for moms

1. Create a Morning Routine

I’ve learned that setting my alarm just a tad earlier allows me to savor a few precious minutes of quiet time and to myself. I aim to do this everyday, but in reality it doesn’t always happen. When I do it though, I am always so happy I did!

2. Step Outside for 5 Minutes

It doesn’t need to be a walk or a workout. Just open the door, breathe in some fresh air, and feel the sun on your face!

3. Stretch or Move Your Body

No workout? No problem. Touch your toes. Do a few shoulder rolls. Dance to a song with your kids. Just move.

4. Put Your Phone Down for a Bit

Not forever—just for a little while. Set it in a drawer or leave it in another room. Give yourself a break of being plugged in all the time!

5. Eat Real Food (Even If It’s Not Pretty)

It doesn’t have to be a salad or green smoothie. A peanut butter sandwich counts. So does a banana. Nourish your body, not just everyone else’s.

6. Say No Without Explaining

You don’t owe everyone an excuse. If something drains you, it’s okay to say no. Your peace matters.

7. Ask for Help Without Guilt

Whether it’s your spouse, mom, or friend—let them help. You weren’t meant to do it all alone.

8. Do One Thing That’s Just for You

Read a few pages of a book. Watch a show. Do your nails. Anything that reminds you you’re more than just “mom.”

9. Go to Bed Earlier

You don’t have to be up late every night catching up on “me time.” Give yourself permission to rest.

10. Speak Kindly to Yourself

Your inner voice matters. Talk to yourself like you would your child—with grace, not guilt. Check out these 30 Empowering Positive Affirmations for Moms.

11. Practice Gratitude

Write down three things you’re thankful for each day. It can be as simple as hot coffee or a quiet moment. Consider getting a gratitude journal or even just a plain notebook!

12. Read a Bible Verse or Devotional

Take a minute to read something from God’s Word. It helps keep your heart grounded, even on busy days. Check out my favorite daily bible and devotional here!

13. Talk to Another Mom

Reach out to a friend, even if it’s just a quick text. It reminds you that you’re not alone in this.
